JFK said in October of 1963 that "The very word secrecy is repugnant." and "The CIA should be shattered into a thousand pieces, and scattered to the four winds.", and look where that got him.

Yeah, for the last handful of years I've become more open to the possibility that he was assassinated by the CIA and that he wasn't the only one either. There was also MLK and Malcolm. I don't know what happened exactly with RFK, but if the CIA were behind that as well then it wouldn't surprise me.

I do kind of wonder about whether the CIA was less subtle back in the sixties and if they were more prone to solving problems with bullets than by discrediting people, which seems to be their go-to method today. Which is certainly not to say that they never assassinate anybody any more; lots of people had motives and the means to have Epstein killed, including the spooks.

Fifty years ago I remember they were referred to as Caught In Action.

Less subtle? They are more active at home now than ever. Every newspaper, radio and TV channel has people on the CIA's payroll. That's in most if not all NATO countries. Not just the US.

Singling out the CIA like you are doing is IMO wrong because it detracts attention from who had something to gain by these people being offed. ;-)

It has long been suspected that the people who are groomed for power are People With Secrets, specifically because such people are more amenable to blackmail.

This applies to plenty of institutions in addition to the US government., and it doesn't even necessarily require a Deep State, although the existence of such is beyond serious doubt.

For that matter, the story of George Santos is most instructive, specifically the timing of the revelations about his residence.

Doesn't have to be lurid sexual allegations if process violations will do the trick.
